As we are moving more towards testing specialists in teams and organizations that are truly adopting Agile and DevOps, we need to understand that the skills that were relevant up to now might need some changes (and sometimes even drastic changes) in order to keep providing value to the process.
Many people think that the most important change a tester needs to undergo is to become more technical, and that this means that she or he needs to write more automation scripts, but this is very far from the only or even the main change we need to implement.
The ability to resolve issues in production, together with the speed at which we need to release, are driving big changes to the way we test and monitor our products. The fact that more and more tests will be run by non-testing specialists, is adding a new set of challenges for people who up to now were in charge of running these tests. The fact that finding bugs now means diving into very large amounts of apparently unrelated data, is both a challenge and an opportunity for testers in the field.
And these are only some of the changes that are causing this revolution in the way we test, how we measure and validate quality, and most importantly on the tools and skills we need to develop as Quality Assurance Specialists within the team.
